Acceso’s mission is to create fundamental and lasting positive economic change in the lives of rural smallholder farming families. Our entrepreneurial model provides smallholder farmers with a sustainable way to participate in formalized markets, enabling them to work themselves out of poverty with dignity and to prosper. Acceso currently operates a portfolio of three social businesses in Colombia, Haiti and El Salvador and an ag-tech tool (Extensio) founded in Mexico. Across our agribusinesses, we have impacted more than 26,000 smallholder farmers and farm workers, generating more than $60m in farmer income to date.  

  1. About the role: 

The Deputy Manager, AgriPrograms will be responsible for the Acceso agricultural operations in Haiti including providing oversight of activities, developing work plans, overseeing the program budget, and reporting on delivery and progress. The Deputy Manager, AgriPrograms will have full program and impact responsibility and lead Acceso to an active farmer network of more than 30,000 in Haiti within five years.

AgriProgram design, execution and oversight:  

  • Draft presentations, concept notes and full project proposals; 
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders, including funders, relevant government departments, private sector companies, and business associations; 
  • Maintain project work plan and ensure timely activities implementation; 
  • Ensure agricultural activities are implemented with sound managerial, technical, human resource and overall programmatic practices; 
  • Conduct visits with field managers to expand operations, lead and motivate staff, manage farmer training and induction programs and resolve business challenges; 
  • Progressively build out strong and sustainable farmer supply base; 
  • Produce and share project performance metrics, including dashboards, Program Status Reports (PSRs) and impact data; 
  • Understand, respect and promote Acceso’s mission, vision and strategy in implementation of assigned duties. 
  • Assist in the management of field staff, field activities as required; 
  • Assist in the creation of weekly field teamwork plans; 
  • Assist in the development and deployment of APEC training courses; 
  • Plan the supervision of smallholder production: farmer recruitment, input requisitioning and purchasing; 
  • Plan production supervision of support farms or “Anchor farms” (credit distribution, input applications and purchasing);  
  • Assist coordination with the Data Manager to ensure that all fields data are entered into the Farmforce database; 
  • Plan the supervision of product traceability, the organization of deposits and the reporting of all inventory transfers; 
  • Ensure that quality control protocols are perfectly followed and that all test materials are up to date; 
  • Assist in the coordination with the Logistics Manager for the daily use and maintenance of APEC field vehicles; 
  • Assist in approving payment of salaries/benefits, advances and reimbursements to field staff; 
  • Assist in the recruitment and hiring of new and/or replacement field staff; 
  • Assist management in the launch of any new value chain generating new revenues. 
  • Implement a monitoring and evaluation plan; 
  • Troubleshoot problems, inaccuracies, and other issues to achieve 100% accuracy with farmer network data systems. 
  • Analyze and update impact assumptions on quarterly basis; 
  • Complete analysis of key performance indicators of all areas of farmer network data and communications campaigns;  
  1. Other Skills and Attributes: 
  1. Hard Skills: 
  • A Bachelor’s degree or major course work in business, agriculture or economics, or a related field; 
  • Ten (10) years experience of which five (5) must be managing agricultural development programs in the Southern Region, preferably in Haiti;  
  • Advanced user of MS Office Suite applications (experience with accounting and operations software a strong plus); 
  • Ability to conceive and implement new opportunities to drive impact; 
  • Experience engaging successfully with economic development funders and a broad understanding of the agricultural development sector in Haiti; 
  • Ability and desire to travel to remote locations in Haiti and deal directly with farmer groups, intermediaries, processors and buyers; 
  • Strong project management and budgeting skills, and experience leading multi-year, multi-million program budgets;

  • Proven effective leadership skills and ability to mentor and manage groups of managers, staff and farmers; 
  1. Language Skills: 
  • Oral and written fluency in French, Creole, Spanish and English.
