About this role: 
The Director Compliance role is a senior-level finance and accounting position focused on building and managing an excellent and scalable financial operation to support Acceso’s growth to more than 100,000 farmers in the next two years. The Director Compliance is a global role and will report directly to the CFO. The role is remote and will be responsible for oversight of compliance of all Acceso’s operations related to finance, accounting, and audit activities in all countries of operation. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Accounting and Finance 
    • Implement new accounting standardization projects for the countries to adhere to US GAAP, IFRS, and local accounting standards and to follow standardized procedures for internal accounting practices like inventory and costing, COA, and exchange rate practices 
    • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with the various accounting standards in the countries of operations 
    • Lead the implementation of an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, banking compliance, and procedures for the global financial operations of Acceso 
    • Manage and coordinate all audit activities in all countries including support on the consolidated audit, expediting the audit calendar and proactively preparing for achieving unqualified opinions on all audits ensuring accounting meets the standards required 
    • Support the consolidated reporting of the financials to the board of directors, lenders, donors and internal leadership team, including the implementation of improvements to the consolidation procedure 
    • Lead Guatemala finance team as interim Guatemala Finance Manager as the new operation in GT scales 
    • Develop accounting and finance policies and procedures that will be used not only to standardize policies and procedures for the current countries of operation, but also will be used for expansion into new countries of operation 
    • Lead finance and accounting setup in new countries of operation ensuring standardization to Acceso policies and procedures along with new country local regulations 
    • In collaboration with FP&A, and with the General Managers, country finance teams, and CFO, support the structuring of country-level forecasting and budgeting to be in line with accounting standards 
    • Support the development of systems for tracking and reporting against restricted grants from multilateral donors like USAID that adhere to accounting best practices 
    • Lead and design improved monthly closing procedures that better align in-country teams along with global teams to complete internal and external reporting deadlines 
    • Improve efficiency of teams by automating processes and optimizing ERP usage 
  • Team Leadership 
    • Provide leadership and influence to existing in-country finance team in topics such as compliance, audits and accounting, as well as leading the local GT accounting team and building a compliance team to support global operations 
    • Support the restructuring of the finance teams to improve administrative and operational accounting services such as treasury management, separation of duties for internal controls, grants payment processing, payroll, accounts payable, and purchasing. 
    • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality by providing training and support. 


Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or master’s degree preferred.  
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional work experience with at least 6 years in a controller, compliance, or equivalent role.  
  • Strong experience in financial management and accounting: you understand how a Balance Sheet and P&L tie together; you get excited about journal entries, cash flow, and audit compliance. Proven US GAAP and IFRS and international multi-entity audit and consolidation experience ERP system experience with Oracle Netsuite or similar  
  • Leadership: You are skilled at directly managing others and are highly motivated to professionally develop and integrate into the teams you work with. Entrepreneurial attitude, and an adaptive work style: You thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.  
  • Working knowledge of Spanish and English, fluency preferred.  
  • Ability and discipline to work remotely.   
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time to Acceso’s markets in LATAM and the Caribbean in the first year.
