Sales Manager, Dominican Republic

Acceso currently operates a portfolio of four social businesses in Colombia, Haiti, Guatemala and El Salvador and an agtech tool (Extensio) founded in Mexico. Across our agribusinesses, we have impacted more than 35,000 smallholder farmers and farm workers, generating more than $80m in farmer income to date.  

Acceso Dominican Republic is a social enterprise implementing a “seed to market” model to strengthen food systems, improve incomes and livelihood for farmers in rural areas, and including a gender and youth approach. Acceso’s hollistic model uses a market-system approach, building on current initiatives from relevant public and private actors to fill important gaps and promote changes in the system. Acceso works with small- and medium-scale vegetable and fruit farmers and artisanal fishermen, and serves as a link between producers and formal markets. 

About the role: 
The Sales Manager will identify, develop, and oversee new business opportunities in establishing Acceso’s agribusiness (fruit, vegetables, café and grains) in the Dominican Republic. The Sales Manager will work with Acceso agribusiness managers to analyze new opportunities, develop operational and financial plans, and oversee new sales operations in The Dominican Republic.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Market Research/Analysis: 
    • Conduct comprehensive market research in the Dominican Republic to identify new business opportunities. 
    • Analyze the restaurant, hospitality, and retail channels to understand market trends and demands. 
    • Utilize a combination of inside and outside sales strategies to develop a robust pipeline of new business opportunities. 
    • Monitor and assess pricing dynamics. 
    • Monitor and analyze competitive landscape. 
  2. Lead Generation: 
    • Initiate and lead conversations with potential sales partners in the Dominican Republic. 
    • Build and nurture relationships with potential buyers to foster long-term partnerships. 
    • Identify new buyers and continuously engage with them to expand the business network. 
  3. Sales Planning and Presentation: 
    • Develop detailed sales projections, operational plans, and Key Performance Indicators for the Dominican Republic market. 
    • Calculate margins and create compelling sales presentations to showcase product offerings. 
    • Secure buying commitments from potential buyers and present sales opportunities to leadership. 
  4. Negotiation and Closing: 
    • Identify potential risks and proactively develop mitigation plans. 
    • Conduct negotiations with buyers to secure formal purchase commitments and establish contracts. 
    • Ensure successful closure of sales transactions while meeting or exceeding targets. 
  5. Demand Planning & Orders Fulfillment: 
    • Oversee all activities related to the setup, launch, and ongoing operations in the Dominican Republic. 
    • Work with the Agricultural team and Operations team to design, test and iterate on demand planning and order fulfillment processes 
    • Assure that new operations achieve sales targets and fulfill customer orders efficiently. 
  6. Customer Feedback and Retention: 
    • Establish mechanisms for collecting customer feedback and insights. 
    • Implement strategies for customer retention and satisfaction. 
    • Address ongoing reporting requirements and respond to external due-diligence inquiries promptly. 
  7. Team Support & Management: 
    • Document all of the above activities in the designated systems and propose process improvements. 
    • Recruit and manage a sales team to execute the sales plans effectively. 
    • Set up sales procedures in the Dominican Republic and document standard operating procedures (SOP’s) in collaboration with main office in El Salvador and the New Markets Team. 


Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or major course work in agriculture, finance or economics, or a related field (MBA or master’s degree preferred); 
  • Five (5) years minimum experience in food sales in the supermarket, hospitality and/or retail channels.  
  • Previous experience working with fruit, vegetables, coffee, cacao, grains, and/or food and beverage manufacturing.  
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit and business sense, enthusiastic about spearheading the launch of a startup agribusiness and adept at handling multifaceted responsibilities. 
  • Excited about Acceso’s mission to work with smallholder farmers. 
  • Experience in business development and strategic planning to meet business targets. 
  • Proficient in navigating diverse business landscapes, adept at engaging with leaders at various organizational levels and catering to a spectrum of business operations, including both international quick service buyers and local market clients. 
  • Experience utilizing a customer relationship management (CRM) – either Hubspot or Salesforce.  
  • Willingness to travel throughout The Dominican Republic with some travel throughout LAC; 
  • Advanced user of MS Office Suite applications; 
  • Oral and written fluency in Spanish and English; oral fluency in French preferred but not required.
