About Us

Acceso’s mission is to create fundamental and lasting economic change in the lives of rural farming families and communities.
Our vision is a world where smallholder farmers are empowered with long-term opportunities and market access that enable them to live healthy, dignified, and prosperous lives. A world where local food systems are equitable and work in favor of small producers, not against them.

We believe in a world where:

Smallholder farmers are empowered with long-term opportunities and market access that enable them to live healthy, dignified, and prosperous lives.

Local food systems are equitable and work in favor of small producers, not against them.

All workers, including women, in food systems are paid fairly.

Food systems do not negatively impact the environment.

Long lasting local solutions are favored to solve local problems.

At present, millions of smallholder farmers in Latin America and the Caribbean are excluded from formal markets and left in poverty because they:

    01

Have limited access to the best training and resources so are underproductive.

    04

Lack the connections and infrastructure to trade with multiple major buyers.

    02

Are not equipped and supported to meet market needs and standards.

    05

Are exposed to climate risks, market shocks and instability.

    03

Are exploited by informal intermediaries or “coyotes” who underpay for their produce.
Acceso’s (“Access” in Spanish) social enterprise model transforms food systems by delivering the missing market architecture that smallholder farmers need to prosper.
Acceso provides a full-suite solution that:

    01

Trains smallholder farmers to produce more and better-quality goods needed by markets.

    04

Handles logistics and sales on behalf of smallholder farmers.

    02

Buys and aggregates multiple crops from multiple farmers in Community Processing Centers.

    05

Re-invests the proceeds into rural communities to increase their resilience.

    03

Negotiates fair prices from multiple buyers to ensure all producers are fairly paid.
Developing the entire pre-competitive ecosystem, Acceso acts as a “one-stop-shop” that connects smallholder farmers to the most advantageous markets for both the most appropriate and profitable crops. Acceso is driven by equity – in food systems, in economies, and in human rights. Acceso’s teams in Colombia, El Salvador and Haiti are wholly local, with a 50:50 gender balance from junior levels to upper management.
