Arnoldo's Story

Arnoldo grew up farming in rural El Salvador but was never able to make enough money to break-even. At the age of 21, he decided to immigrate to the US for the chance of a better life. After nearly losing is his life during the journey, and spending six months in detention facilities he decided to return to El Salvador. Fortunately, when he returned, he met Acceso and was provided an opportunity to grow his farm and make a life for himself and family in his own community.

Acceso provided Arnoldo with a small loan to buy top-quality seed and construct a basic greenhouse, as well as expert agronomic assistance (including climate-smart agricultural practices) and a guaranteed price for his tomato harvests.

Over the last six years, $2,377 in micro-loans from Acceso have enabled Arnoldo to generate $98,000 in produce sales. Whereas once his small farm was hardly breaking even, he now earns enough to support his growing family and begin investing in his future – including building a house, hiring employees, and expanding his agribusiness.
Watch the powerful story of Dionel Arnoldo, a farmer in El Salvador.

Note: Acceso does not take a position on individuals’ choices to migrate nor the legality of it. Our focus is on empowering farmers with long-term opportunities and market access to live healthy, dignified and prosperous lives, should they desire to stay in their communities.
