Acceso El Salvador is a social enterprise that has been working to strengthen local food systems since 2014. The enterprise is in an exciting growth phase to impact many more smallholder farmers and fishers across Central America. Acceso’s goal is to become the world’s most impactful and sustainable model to alleviate poverty at scale. 

About this role: 

Lead all the activities related to gender programming, as well as lead targeted work with Community Training Farms, WOSMEs and women-led cooperatives and associations, and individual beneficiaries according with Acceso’s policies and the requirements of donors in coordination with the El Salvador team focused on increasing the participation of women in the value chains of fruits and vegetables and, fish and seafood. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Develop the guidelines and procedures for the gender programming strategy. 
  • Responsible for developing and implementation of the annual work plan for gender programming with individual beneficiary and SMEs, cooperatives, and associations leaded by women. 
  • Design the procedure for the technical assistances under the gender programming plan identify the strategy for the implementation of the gender in the technical assistances. 
  • Verify the implementation of the procedures for the technical assistances, including training, as well ensuring the expected results are obtained. 
  • Collaborate with Acceso’s stakeholders and partners in the definition and establishment of the methodology, indicators/milestones and expected results linked with the implementation of programs and projects. 
  • Lead the formation of and manage a Women’s Empowerment Advisory Committee for Acceso. 
  • Develop and manage partnerships with gender experts and organizations working in the region.  
  • Responsible for developing and implementation of the annual work plan for gender programming with individual beneficiary and SMEs, cooperatives, and associations led by women. 
  • Ensure gender mainstreaming into projects and operations. 
  • Lead the recruitment strategies and communication with women farmers and associations. 
  • Verify the implementation of procedures for technical assistance oriented towards women, including training field staff on gender themes, as well ensuring the expected results are obtained. 
  • Design and carry out field visits, focus groups, surveys for women, according with the needs to comply with the functions assigned. 
  • Pilot and scale evidence-based, innovative and integrated programming and services such as childcare services to overcome women’s barriers to entry.  
  • Monitoring the results for each of the Programs/Projects in gender inclusion giving support in the development of specifics reports and/or deliverables according with internal and stakeholder’s requirements. 
  • Elaborate reports/deliverables, according with the required periodicity that reflects the results obtained during the implementation of the activities according with the work plans; monitoring, evaluation, and learning plans; and other relevant programs and project’s documents. 
  • Carry out field visits according with the needs to comply with the functions assigned. 
  • Any other function that is assigned to it. 

Other Skills and Attributes 

  1. Hard Skills 
  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, economics, sociology, business administration or related fields. 
  • Desirable, master’s degree in gender, social development, or economic development. 
  • Eight (8) or more years of experiences in/with gender-related development programs/projects. 
  • Demonstrated experience with gender integration in development programming. 
  • Proven experience in the design, implementation of rural/community development, programs, and of gender-sensitive integrated program activities, especially in the areas of women’s empowerment. 
  • Experiences in organizing and conducting trainings. 
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work independently. 
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects involving rural communities, non-government organizations (NGOs) and public sector and private sector actors. 
  • Previous experience of working in Latin America preferred, in projects related to agriculture, sustainable fishing, livelihoods, agtech, and/or rural development.  
  • Proven experiences in using quantitative and qualitative methodologies, information/data systems, generating reports, data quality control evaluations and presentation of results.
