Across our agribusinesses, we have impacted more than 26,000 smallholder farmers and farm workers, generating more than $60m in farmer income to date.

About this role:

This position will be at least 80% remote from Colombia and will manage the Acceso Haiti Accounting team in Port-au-Prince. The chosen candidate will coordinate with the Sr. Finance Manager (located in Colombia) and the Chief Business Officer to align processes and reports with Acceso’s operations in Colombia and El Salvador and day to day activities will involve frequent communication with the team in Haiti to ensure effective accounting and financial oversight and analysis support for the Haiti Country Director. Travel between Colombia and Haiti may be required, particularly at the start.

Acceso Haiti is growing every year – impacting more farmers, increasing supply, and providing additional buyers both in Haiti and abroad. To support this growth, Acceso Haiti is looking for an experienced Accounting manager with a specialization in Finance to oversee all accounting, financial reporting as well as general management coordination in line with plans and targets defined by the board of directors and general manager. The accounting manager will execute, supervise, control, and improve all financial and administrative processes that allow and facilitate effective decision making. Note this role will be a part of the senior management team at Acceso Haiti and will have multiple direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Management

  • Oversee all out-going expenses and internal and external financial reporting.
  • Assist in the creation of the annual office budget and reconcile spending against budget each month.
  • Analysis of weekly and monthly results, detailed review of all spending allocations to ensure accurate reporting and forecasting, assess performance and define improvement plans if needed.
  • Perform feasibility studies, budgeting and follow up of expansion projects and business lines.
  • Drive process improvements across the business with specific focus on accounting.
  • Support general manager in costing and inventory management.
  • Ensure an efficient use of the ERP and streamline reporting.
  • Ensure all payment operations of staff salaries and taxes, and associated reconciliation controls are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assess payments from providers and activities with treasury personnel.

2.    Preparation of Financial Statements

  • Perform activity-related accounting transactions according to the organization’s financial and accounting systems and pre-established standards.
  • Implement necessary actions for a timely and accurate weekly and monthly close with input from the rest of the accounting team.
  • Track and project cash flow weekly and monthly.

3.    Data Verification and Analysis

  • Prepare and ensure that financial documents are delivered on time to management.
  • Ensure the reliability of all entries and accounting information.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations, along with research, and follow up of unreconciled items, as well as ensure that proper physical inventories occur frequently.
  • Establish invoices for customers and follow up on payments.
  • Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the attention of management.
  • Develop memos and track their implementation.

4.    Oversee all Activities related to Accounting

  • Ensure the classification of administrative, accounting, and financial records.
  • Delegate financial responsibilities to the accounting team.
  • Coordinate weekly, monthly audits and help managers conduct audits.
  • Develop and deploy rules and procedures for appropriate reporting and internal controls.
  • Lead multi-day audits and site visits throughout the country and potentially abroad.

Other Skills and Attributes:

1. Hard Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Master’s degree preferred). Finance and financial analysis experience
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in financial management, financial planning, or accounting.
  • Experience in agribusiness or rural development projects.
  • Mastery of accounting and office software: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, SAP, NetSuite.
  • Advanced user of MS Office Suite applications.

2. Soft Skills

  • Strong ability to work independently and remotely.
  • Collaborative in working with a team of different culture and language.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and business sense.
  • Able to meet deadlines and achieve results.
  • Be available for multi-day missions abroad.

3. Language skills: Oral and written fluency in English, French and/or Kreyol is a very strong plus.
